The Prophets of God — Part 1
I mentioned in a previous post that the ‘true’ prophets of God are never popular. That’s because they usually bring a warning to a person, family or nation: Stop your bad behavior!
“O son of man, I have set you a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.”
Since most people don’t like being told what to do, the prophets of God don’t get a warm reception. Try to understand the ‘job’ of a prophet.
Most human beings ‘trust’ their own thoughts. Thoughts are the basis of our actions. However, God does not think like us. His thoughts are very different from ours.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
If you think you are smart or your ideas are great, it will take some effort (and humility) on your part to get God’s thinking into your head.
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”
The word used for ‘heart’ in the Bible is actually referring to your ‘brain’.
“The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.”
“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders …”
Your heart doesn’t think — your brain does! Think of the Bible as God’s brain. If a person wants to think like God, they must replace the concepts and ideas in their brain with the information in the Bible. This is why it is so important to understand the Bible correctly.
Understanding the Bible correctly is the basis of replacing the ‘wrong’ information in your brain with ‘correct’ information. This correct information leads to correct behavior. Correct behavior leads to righteousness (doing what is right according to God). A person makes peace with God by doing what is right!
When a person, family or nation refuses to do things God’s way, God sends a prophet to warn them because the judgment of God is around the corner.
“Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.”
In order for a person or nation to ’stop’ the judgment of God, they must stop the things they are doing that are not right, which is the meaning of repentance. This is why the Bible exists — to help people and nations change their thinking so they can change their behavior and avoid the judgment of God here on earth!
“Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.”
