Jesus is the Holy Spirit — Part 2
In previous posts, we touched on prophecy. Prophecy is a prediction, foretelling something to come in the future.
Some Bible prophecy refers to a one-time event (like the birth of the Messiah), while other prophecy is cyclical in nature, meaning it occurs over and over again (like the herald known as the Elijah).
Jesus taught us that all the prophecies of the Bible are speaking about him. This means Jesus is involved in every single prophecy, whether it took place in Old Testament times or New Testament times. Consider this statement Jesus made to the religious leaders two thousand years ago:
“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
Then said the Jews unto him, You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”
Down the road, we’ll delve into what Jesus meant by this statement, so stick around!
For now, understand that some prophecies are spoken in clear language, like the exile of the Jews to Babylon during the 6th Century BC.
“For thus says the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place (Jerusalem).”
However, some prophecies are spoken in cryptic language, meaning they are ‘locked inside’ the Bible’s writings. Only a true prophet of God can ‘unlock’ the meaning, which can never be outside the other writings of the Bible. No private interpretations are allowed, according to both the Old and New Testaments.
Jesus was a prophet of God and as such, could decipher the prophecies. This is how he knew exactly how long he would spend in hell. Always remember that prophecy is precise.
“For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”
In order for Jesus to be the Christ, he must fulfill this prophecy. Now consider how mainstream Christianity places Christ’s death on a Friday and his resurrection on a Sunday. That’s only two nights! Christ must spend three nights in hell. Thus, Christians are following a lie and if they have been deceived about this, they should inspect all the other doctrines they have been taught to see where else they have been deceived.
Never forget that the prophecies are how God spoke to His Christ. Jesus did not have a golden telephone booth that he jumped inside of to dial God. He had the prophecies, just like you and I. If you want to ‘hear’ from God, start reading the Bible. Beware of anyone that claims to have a ’special word’ from the Lord for you. If it’s from the Lord, you’ll find it written in the Bible.
Jesus made many predictions, all of which were based on existing prophecies in the Old Testament. Just as the prophecies predicted the arrival of the Messiah, they also predicted the arrival of the Holy Spirit — a special Spirit that would occupy the bodies of human beings.
This is why Jesus taught his disciples that it was necessary for him to die in order to send the ‘Comforter’ to them, which is another name for the Holy Spirit (also known as the Holy Ghost). Jesus explained that the Holy Spirit’s job would include ‘teaching’ and ‘reminding’ them of God’s Word.
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
“Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.”
While Jesus was alive on the Earth, he acted as the ‘comforter’ to his disciples. This comfort was the direct result of the scriptures living inside Jesus’ brain — the source of all of Jesus’ teachings.
“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
Jesus promised his disciples that he would not leave them comfortless, and that he would return to them after he was executed, to comfort them forever. This puts the ‘eternal’ nature of the Comforter before us, which must be referring to a Spirit, not a physical human being, since human beings do not live forever.
“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;”
“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me.”
Jesus added another name to describe the Comforter: the Spirit of truth. This proves what I stated above, that the Comforter cannot be referring to a physical human being, but rather, a Spirit.
“Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you.”
What do we have?
> We have three names that can be used interchangeably:
- The Comforter
- The Holy Spirit (aka Holy Ghost)
- The Spirit of truth
> We have Jesus returning to his disciples as the Comforter (also called the Holy Spirit and Spirit of truth).
> We have the Comforter (who is Jesus) living inside of Jesus’ disciples.
> We have a Teacher of God’s Word (who is Jesus) living inside of Jesus’ disciples.
> We have an explanation from Jesus himself regarding Jeremiah’s prophecy: how the ‘new’ covenant is going to be written upon our brains and how we will all know the Lord, from the least to the greatest of us.
And don’t forget the ‘new’ covenant is made with Israel!
To be continued…
